You see, I have been sickly and weak since the day I was born and doomed to go through all my life a weakling. I seemed to have always suffered from one illness or another and could never play with the other children as I so desperately wanted to. Mother always made such a big fuss over me, also, making the situation worse as the other boys teased me mercilessly after they saw it. I was browsing the internet searching on how i could be transformed into a powerful when i came across the email of a man named Lord Mark. who was a VAMPIRE so I told him that I has always dreamed of becoming a VAMPIRES, All i did was just to follow the procedure that i was been told, and i bet you that procedure I took change my entire life to something i ever desire, freedom, sickness free, pains free, fame, influence, connections and even more that i can. Thanks to Lord Mark. Do you want a life full of interesting things? Do you want to have power and influence over others? To be charming and desirable? The nudity at the start of the film, forces the viewer to see the frankness that the other components will be dealt with. Not to mention the fact that the pretty bodies quickly got my attention. Between Carrie's obsessed mother, Sue's misunderstood plan and students with an evil agenda, the excitement in the cauldron may be only simmering, but it is always there. The prom night scene does fulfill the viewer's need for the inevitable expectation that Carrie will "get them back" but, the foreplay of the preceding events is a lot more than half the fun.

I really like your breakdown of movies by using of The Good, The Bad and The Gorey. You don't seem to understand her because of her murderous rampage. Even though I don't agree with everything that she said and did, I sympathize with her due to my being bullied many times. Besides, I incompletely justify her explosive behavior because of her bullying classmates and her self-righteous mom. I think it with her rampaging the entire town makes sense because you get view points from different folks who survived the destruction. They tell a story of a young Carrie and her isolation from everyone because of her crazy ass mom. If you do read it, please let me know what you think!PTSS/LBhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02170378760779707707noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2590950930319710211.post-82169329679262622642013-03-01T22:42:09.097-08:002013-03-01T22:42:09.097-08:00I never heard about the 2002 remake. Love your take on all the aspects you enjoyed and even the ones you disliked. If you ever get a chance to read the book you should it's great seeing how King has evolved from his first novel and Carrie is a great book. Did you ever see the 2002 remake? Whole different pacing and opinions for that one! Hoping this new non-TV remake does the book and this classic horror film justice...Courtney Loneshttp://theresthegirlwiththeblog.blogspot.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2590950930319710211.post-90361132329154878592013-03-01T20:14:47.375-08:002013-03-01T20:14:47.375-08:00I like your review...but the spoiler is quite tran...I like your review...but the spoiler is quite transparent ;) lucky I have watched the movie.

I really agree with Jonathan Dalar there...I hope the remake stays true to the book. And lots of people would call Carrie a Thriller as opposed to a Horror film. Me, coming at the movie with a Horror expectation, I wasn't endeared by the plot's slow crescendo. But maybe one night I'll curl my hair, paint my toenails and watch it again with a different viewpoint. The Cheshire Cathttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08224678106445126955noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2590950930319710211.post-59336936752941170262013-03-01T17:52:29.599-08:002013-03-01T17:52:29.599-08:00I actually preferred everything that led up to the...I actually preferred everything that led up to the “all hell breaks loose” climax. Throughout the book, King provided snippets of fake news release and court documents that gave it a more realistic feel than if it had just been a straight novel.

Yes, the plot is fairly straightforward, a set of standard horror story tropes. But to provide those bits of "actual life" juxtaposed to the story itself lent a certain quality to it.

I think the upcoming movie would actually work well as a sort of mocumentary. Give it the full treatment of a documentary as the original novel did and it would work well. Sure, that trope is a bit tired, with some of the more recent "found footage" films, but with what we have to work with today, it could be a pretty neat adaptation, one far better than the original film.Jonathan Dalarhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08001176878191347542noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2590950930319710211.post-48683544211676141932013-03-01T11:05:48.984-08:002013-03-01T11:05:48.984-08:00I have read most of King's work more than once...I have read most of King's work more than once and consider myself learned on most things related to his canon of work.

I'd add to your review that the movie diverges from the book quite a bit, but in a good way. The screenplay was written by Lawrence Cohen who would go on to do a few other King adaptations.

This indeed was King's first book. In its original incarnation, it amounted to little more than a novella. His publisher had him rewrite it. The revisions included testimony before a congressional committee and excerpts from a book that Sue Snell wrote about Carrie after the incident.

What you refer to as "The Rampage" was completely retooled by Cohen and, as you point out, was quite effective. In the book, Carrie wanders about town, destroying buildings and killing people. But the story wasn't really about the town. It was about the school and the kids in it. Cohen confined his carnage to that realm and made for an effective climax.

I like your review. I disagree about the lag in the story. I thought Piper Laurie really carried the middle with her over the top portrayal and the sweet, soft music during the prom juxtaposed nicely with the "Psycho" music bed that accompanied the carnage that followed.
